Glass Illusions is a small stained glass studio with big capabilities, specializing in intricate leaded glass window art.
We've been creating beautifully handcrafted stained glass art in our rural Illinois studio since 1978, and showing our award-winning work at arts and craft fairs across the Midwest since 1985.
We work in all sizes and aspects of the medium, custom designing large works specifically for each architectural and decorative need. But our greatest challenge and fascination is found in our free-form style, which is what we bring to art fairs.
First, sketches are made to capture an image, either real or imagined. Then an inked cartoon pattern is made from the sketches to capture the essence of the subject. Selected glasses are chosen or created for color, texture and movement. With time-honored methods, the selected glasses are hand scored and broken to the pattern shape, with careful attention to the movement and flow of each piece of glass. Our original, copyrighted designs may incorporate some antique, fused, carved or hand-wrought glasses.
Precise edge fitting of each of these glass segments with narrow, alloyed lead cames allows us to use bold colors and textures while maintaining an uncluttered appearance. These stiff cames are delicately soldered at each juncture. Embellishments of lead, copper and brass are added for unique detail and line enhancement. And finally, an EPA-approved electroplater encases all leads and metals in bright nickel for a brilliant appearance and public safety. Any reproduction of these images is strictly prohibited.
The studio is not just limited to the small art that you will see in our online gallery. We also create:
